The Town of Huntsville's public works department is preparing for the winter season ahead. Director of Operations Steve Hernen says they have made some changes to make winter maintenance more efficient. 

Kiwanis Club has opened a chapter in Huntsville. The official grand opening was in Partners Hall on Oct. 13. It is the first new service club in Ontario in nearly 35 years. Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Muskoka's aim is to serve the youth across Muskoka. For more information on Kiwanis Club click here. 

Lyle Cathcart has been an avid member and volunteer of the Bracebridge community for over 70 years. Lyle's love for Bracebridge is what he says inspires him to continue volunteering. 

Cathcart has been part of several groups including the Muskoka Shrine Club and Bracebridge Lions Club. He's received several awards and honours including 65 years of perfect attendance with The Lions. Cathcart is an example of what making a difference is all about. 

Deerhurst Resort hosted a charity golf tournament to raise money for the Dara Howell Fund. The Muskoka Community Foundation oversees the fund that helps local young women excel in sports. The tournament raised $4,500 and Deerhurst is looking forward to hosting again on Aug. 19, 2018. For more information on the Muskoka Community Foundation and Dara's Fund, click here. 

Gravenhurst Fire Department wrapped up Fire Prevention Week with a interactive demonstrations and tips for the whole family.

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department conducted fire inspections on Oct. 11. Fire Prevention Officer Mike Vadlja took us on a tour of Muskoka Landing to show us the importance of having a fire safety plan. Fire Prevention Week ran Oct. 8-14. Huntsville Public School is closer to their dream of building a fully accessible playground. They are currently looking for your vote to potentially get up to $50,000 through the Aviva Community Fund. You need to register on the Aviva Community Fund website first before you can vote for the project. You can vote up to 18 times. Click here to go to the project page. The deadline to vote is on Oct. 19. The finalists will be announced on Nov.1 and winners on Dec. 5. 

The Muskoka Oldtimers in partnership with the Manna Food Bank recently held their annual food drive raising over 15 thousand pounds of food and over $4000 dollars in cash donations.

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department, the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) and Muskoka Fire Prevention conducted a side-by-side control burn at Deerhurst Resort on Oct. 3. The purpose was to compare the damage between two structures, one of which was fire sprinkler protected.
